3rd Annual Christmas Towne Features Family Fun

Christmas Towne, a free community event currently in its third year, will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel's outdoor plaza.

"Christmas Towne is designed to give families memories of holiday fun that will last a lifetime," said Holly McMillan, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce festivals and special events director. "Families had so much fun last year that we decided to make Christmas Towne 2006 bigger and better."

Christmas Towne will feature a tree lighting ceremony that begins at 6 p.m. and will be emceed by Diane DeVaughn Stokes as Jingles the Elf. The ceremony also will showcase the talents of Myrtle Beach Elementary School's 3rd grade Singin' Sea Raiders. Christmas Towne's other free activities include photos with Santa, wagon rides, face painting, balloon art, basketball hoop shooting, inflatable slides, games and spin art, among others.

New for the 2006 event, Christmas Towne will feature a petting display by the Waccamaw Animal Rescue Mission, a touch tank with sea creatures from Ripley's Aquarium, candy art (while supplies last), LEGO building, holiday coloring station, putting green golf game, The Ripken Experience baseball game, Children's Museum of South Carolina craft station and, for a small fee, the Fluff & Stuff Bear Factory where children can create their own stuffed animals.

To keep participants in the warm holiday mood, Wendy's Restaurants and Cheerwine will be serving free chili and Cheerwine and there will be free cookies and hot chocolate for all who attend.

Christmas Towne is also an official drop off location for Toys for Tots and those who attend are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to help make holiday dreams come true for local children.

Christmas Towne is sponsored by Wendy's Restaurants and was organized by the chamber and the city of Myrtle Beach. For more information, call (843) 626-7444 or log onto VisitMyBeach.com/ChristmasTowne.
