If you didn't get a chance to catch it Thursday night, there's one more opportunity to see a great special on The Golf Channel that highlights the 2007 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament. The one-hour showcase of the Myrtle Beach golf scene airs on Wednesday, May 23 at 2 p.m. EDT.
Be sure to set your VCRs and digital recorders if you're working at that time. Because whether you attended the event or not, you'll have fun catching John Daly sing with Hootie & the Blowfish ...
Sterling Sharpe throw "football passes" with a Titleist to winning teammate and current Nationwide Tour player Ricky Barnes ...
PGA great Lee Elder sing Johnny Mathis ... and lots more fun stuff.
The Golf Channel special not only shows highlights of the event, but features several interviews with attending celebrities, fans and participating tour pros. You also see and hear plenty from the event's principals, including reps of its co-presenting sponsors (Intel Corporation and Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday) and lots of footage with its hosts - Darius Rucker and the band, both living it up on the course and jamming it up at the House of Blues later that evening.
As a shining moment of the spring golf season, it got us at the Beach Blog thinking that we need to ask you: what has been your highlight playing the Grand Strand courses this spring?
For me, it was my first chance to play an exceptionally well-conditioned course at The River Club, and love every minute of every three-putt on the best bentgrass greens I've played anywhere. It was also a chance to knock 'em around several central Strand courses with my brothers visiting from Long Island. It didn't much matter where we were playing - just that kid-in-a-candy-store looks on their faces alone, over the fact that we were playing at all, told me they were thrilled to be out enjoying the great weather while their friends back north were trudging through a snowy early April.
It's been a great spring for Myrtle Beach golf, and we want to hear from you about your most enduring memories from it. Let loose with your comments, and let us know what made spring golf on the Strand so memorable for you!
After seeing Sterling Sharp in person at that event, and seeing him again on TV, the camera doesn’t really add 10-15 pounds. It doesn’t have to . Since he stopped playing, he’s put on a good 40 all on his own!
Played Willbrook for the first time last week, and it was absolutely the highlight of my golfing spring. Just tremendous!
