Low-cost airline Allegiant Air today announced it will begin low-fare, nonstop jet service from Myrtle Beach International Airport to Huntington, West Virginia, beginning April 30. The airline is commemorating the new service with introductory fares as low as $39 one-way, according to an Allegiant press release.

"The flight from Huntington to Myrtle Beach will connect two great destinations." Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller (D-WV), chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, said. "Airlines continue to see the value of adding service to West Virginia, and I know this flight will be a success. Access to Myrtle Beach will also promote tourism and economic development in the state. I commend Allegiant Air for choosing Huntington, and I commend the community for making existing air service so successful."

The new flights to Huntington will operate twice weekly, with service Thursday and Sunday. Flights will depart Myrtle Beach International Airport at 1:10 p.m., arriving in Tri-State Airport at 2:30 p.m. Flights leaving Huntington will depart at 9:30 a.m., arriving in Myrtle Beach at 10:50 a.m. (all flight times are local). Allegiant will utilize 150-seat, MD-80 series jet aircraft on the route.

"We look forward to working with Allegiant Air to provide affordable air service from Huntington, West Virginia to Myrtle Beach," said Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. "This is a great opportunity for Myrtle Beach, as a destination, as we will start with summer service to and from Huntington and grow from there. The West Virginia market is one of our most popular markets and we are excited to provide a quicker travel method for golfers to get to Myrtle Beach and get out on the golf courses."

"We're excited to see Allegiant add air service to Myrtle Beach," said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. "Allegiant specializes in package offers, which is a good fit for our destination. Travel packages are a powerful incentive with Myrtle Beach visitors."

The company commented that market research and input from local community leaders indicate Myrtle Beach and the Huntington markets will welcome the value and convenience of flying nonstop to/from Myrtle Beach International Airport as an alternative to long drives and connecting flights through congested airports.
