High Hammock recently opened in Pawleys Island, but its parent company is no stranger to South Carolina. High Hammock is part of Maverick Southern Kitchens, a company of five unique restaurants, a kitchen store, culinary center and an inn, based in Charleston, South Carolina. Some of the properties include Slightly North of Broad (downtown Charleston), High Cotton Maverick Bar & Grill (downtown Charleston and Greenville), Charleston Cooks! (downtown Charleston) and Old Village Post House (Mt. Pleasant).
Maverick Southern Kitchens describes its menus as hearty and Southern. Their chefs feature local, regional cuisine daily. The High Hammock menu is the culinary masterpiece of nationally acclaimed chef Frank Lee.
Maverick Southern Kitchens remodeled its High Hammock location to have a brighter, more inviting dining room, refinished the wide wood plank floors in the upstairs dining room and added décor befitting of a southern restaurant. The porch is very popular in warm weather and sunny afternoons.
Sunday Brunch
In search of a relaxing Sunday brunch? High Hammock Maverick Seaside Kitchen has just what you are looking to find. Brunch with friends and family is a special treat on a Sunday morning, and having it at High Hammock Maverick Seaside Kitchen makes the treat even more special.
The Coastalina Shrimp & Grits is the same signature dish found at High Cotton in Charleston, featuring sautéed shrimp, house made sausage, country ham, fresh tomatoes, green onions and garlic over stone ground grits. Our server told us the grits came from Tim's Mill in upstate South Carolina. Tim's Mill is a water run mill - meaning if the water isn't running, then the mill isn't either.
Brunch items also include distinctly Southern items such as the Crispy-Fried Chicken Livers over stone-ground grits with caramelized onion country gravy.
House favorites are the House Made Brioche French Toast served with maple syrup and bacon; Maverick Crab Benedict with deviled crab cakes, two poached eggs, hollandaise, asparagus and choice of hash browns or grits; Grilled Southern Medley of chicken breast, zucchini, eggplant and tomatoes with basil pesto, balsamic vinaigrette and goat cheese croutons; and the Smothered Burrito of stewed chicken in a flour tortilla, smothered with red beans and cheese with sour cream and tomato-jalapeno salsa.
High Hammock's soups, salads and sandwiches are also served during brunch. Several brunch items are also available Monday-Saturday for lunch.
Lunch!
In addition to an Express Lunch of the Day (lunch entrée served with choice of soup or salad and soft beverage), High Hammock offers a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees for lunch.
The Maverick Reuben is a "must try" sandwich at High Hammock. The house-made corned beef (three-and-a-half-day process in High Hammock's kitchen) is piled high on toasted rye bread and topped with fontina cheese, sauerkraut, whole grain mustard and special house sauce. Truly a house favorite on the lunch menu!
Another signature lunch entrée is Executive Chef Frank Lee's Pad Thai. This classic Thai noodle dish with the Maverick twist combines shrimp and pork with rice noodles, Thai fish sauce, eggs, mung bean sprouts, green onions and peanuts. Vegetarian dish is available with tofu instead of shrimp and pork.
A dish unique to High Hammock is the Charcuterie Plate, the chef's selection of smoked meats, small salad and garnish. It may include kitchen-made pates, mousses, sausage and rillettes with traditional accompaniments and toast. Truly a delicacy not found in many restaurants! (Available for lunch or dinner.)
Happy Hour!
On a sunny afternoon, take a break from shopping at the Hammock Shops Village to enjoy Happy Hour at High Hammock. Served 4-7 p.m. daily in the Tavern or Porch, Happy Hour specials include beverage specials that are sure to quench any thirst. Ask your server about the beer, wine and house specialty drink specials.
Signature cocktails include the High Hammock Cocktail (local Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, lemonade, fresh mint infused syrup, tall and on the rocks), Endless Summer (vodka, Malibu Rum, pineapple juice, shaken and served up), Hendrick's Howitzer (cucumber infused Hendrick's gin, lemonade, served on the rocks with a splash of Cava), or the Goombay Smash (Mt. Gay, Malibu Rum, pineapple, orange juice, Grenadine, shaken and served on the rocks).
Dinner!
Served nightly, High Hammock's dinner menu leaves one salivating. Whether it's a lighter plate of soup or salad, medium plate of beef Carpaccio, Carolina quail breast, or sesame crusted tuna medallions, High Hammock's varied menu is sure to please even the pickiest of diners.
Main course dinner entrees include High Hammock's Grilled BBQ Tuna, Lump Crab Cakes, Roast Rack of Lamb, New York Strip or Sautéed Duck Breast. Vegetarians love the local vegetables selected daily for the vegetable platter.
Chef Mark Ross also uses local, seasonal seafood to create nightly dinner features. Ask your server for the evening's selection.
There are also weekly dinner specials. If you love Prime Rib, then Tuesday night is the night for you at High Hammock. Wednesday night features Deviled Crab Stuffed Flounder.
