Breakfast!
Whether you're looking for a Southern breakfast buffet or lighter fare to start your day, Papa's restaurant at the Breakers Resort fits the bill. Noted to be the best breakfast buffet on the beach, Papa's plentiful buffet features creamy grits (no cream of wheat or polenta - just a ground corn concoction called grits), sausage gravy and biscuits, kitchen-made (restaurant lingo for homemade) corned beef hash, waffles, pancakes, fresh fruit, hash browns (a.k.a. home fries), breakfast meats, eggs and biscuits. This buffet is a steal at $8.95 per person. Order a steaming pot of coffee and you're ready to take on the day.
For those who prefer ordering off the menu or searching for something a little different for breakfast, choose several "eggs your way" breakfast options with breakfast meats, pancakes, omelets, French toast, Belgium waffles, cereal or fresh fruit and yogurt.
Children age 10 and under can enjoy the children's buffet for $3.95.
After indulging in the most important meal of the day, we recommend you take a walk on the beach or swim a few laps in the Breakers' pool. If you're looking for more adventure, Myrtle Beach is home to a number of outlet stores, national retailers, amusement parks, boating and an award-winning aquarium. Just remember to wear your sunscreen.
Dinner!
After a full day in Myrtle Beach, it's time for Round 2 at Papa's Steaks, Ribs & Creative Cookery.
Happy Hour begins daily at 4 p.m. with half-priced appetizers and drink specials. A HOT summer day calls for Papa's Passion, a fabulous cocktail of Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, pineapple juice and passion fruit puree. Papa's also has a wide selection of cocktails, wines and beer.
Ready for dinner? Papa's is a casual, family-friendly restaurant perfect after a long day on the beach or sight-seeing.
The children's menu features fish fingers, kid's burger, hot dog, chicken tenders and pasta. Fruit or applesauce can be substituted for fries in most children's meals.
One "must-have" appetizer is the calamari. Coated in a tempura beer batter and flash fried, Papa's calamari is served with a wasabi and sesame teriyaki dip. This is a hefty portion and one worth sharing with the entire table.
Dinner entrees include choice of soup du jour or salad and a side item. You can't go wrong with anything on the dinner menu but Papa's has three true specialties: prime rib, stuffed flounder and seafood pasta.
Papa's prime rib is cooked fresh daily and seared perfectly. The super succulent prime rib is fork-tender and comes with two side items: a baked potato stuffed with sour cream, pancetta and shredded cheddar cheese and sautéed veggies (fresh squash, onions and peppers). Be sure to come back on Wednesday nights for All-You-Can-Eat Prime Rib Night ($19, includes soup or salad and side items).
Papa's flounder comes stuffed with lump crabmeat and topped with a rich, creamy lobster sauce. This is a true indulgence in fabulous seafood and one not to be missed.
The third entrée is the seafood pasta. Baby clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops are married with a creamy scampi sauce, Boursin cheese, sun-dried tomatoes and red peppers then served over a bed of angel hair pasta. As one dinner companion put it, "to die for!"
You can't leave without having Papa's signature dessert - banana xingo. Imagine banana puree and cheesecake rolled in a flour tortilla, then flash fried and rolled in cinnamon and brown sugar. This is one dessert that you will not want to share!
Families LOVE Papa's Family Night, which runs every Thursday throughout the summer. Family night entertainment includes magicians, face painting, music, paper tablecloths to encourage kids' creativity, kiddie cocktails and kid-friendly food on the buffet.
Private dining for parties up to 40 is available at Papa's Steak, Ribs & Creative Fish Cookery. Reservations are recommended for parties of six or more. Catering is also available for family reunions, large parties or small gatherings.
Chef Iris Anderson puts it best: "Every night is a good night at Papa's." The staff is extremely friendly and willing to accommodate special requests whenever possible.
One note: Come hungry. Papa's Steaks, Ribs & Creative Fish Cookery serves generous portions.
