Capturing State Fair Fun

Capturing State Fair Fun

By Becky Billingsley

Most people would say a visit to a state fair visit would not be well-rounded without indulging in treats that are normally sold only in a fair setting, but now a new restaurant at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach injects fair fun into any day.

State Fair Food Court, at 1207 Celebrity Circle in Broadway at the Beach, offers a state fair food court with all the treats but without the sawdust.

Like any food court the drinks are in a central kiosk, but in addition to sodas this one also has Icee machines. Other beverage options include draft beers (Magic Hat, Blue Moon, Guinness, Miller Lite, Fat Tire, Bud Light and Yuengling), ice cream floats, milkshakes and freshly squeezed lemonade.

Food choices include the mundane such as burgers, fries, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and pizza. But even the fries are extra-fun here, with both white and sweet potato fries available in long and skinny ribbon cuts.

Then there are the traditional fair foods that, with one whiff, will transport you to the midway.

Funnel cakes can be topped with traditional powdered sugar, strawberries, pineapple, chocolate syrup or ice cream. State fairs are famous for deep-fried treats, and this restaurant has deep-fried Oreos, Snickers, cookie dough, Milky Ways and 3 Musketeers.

Cotton candy is freshly spun, and there are candy apples, caramel apples and chocolate caramel apples. Of course the menu includes corn dogs, and a fun novelty is macaroni and cheese bites.

People are usually lined up for the popcorn because they have choices: cheese, chocolate, caramel, kettle and butter. Both hand-dipped and soft-serve ice creams are available, and you can have them in a cup, cone, sundae or as a creamy "Spin-up" with Oreos, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, Butterfingers, M&Ms or Heath Bars.

Seating is available inside or out on the covered front porch. A bright and festive decor creates a fair-ly colorful atmosphere, the service is efficient and the layout is organized and tidy.

State Fair Food Court is open daily from 10 a.m.-11 p.m., and the number is 843-444-5522.
