Most people of any age can't trace art this good.
But for 11-year-old Riney Winterhalter of Carolina Forest, freehand sketching comes naturally. And he's a boy with the foresight of a grownup, knowing that the more he practices, the better he gets at it.
That's why he didn't just show us a few random pieces of his best work recently. He's produced stacks of it, and was more than happy to give us a glimpse of some of his favorites from his voluminous collection.
"I love comics, and my art shows that," Riney explains. It also shows the depth of his artistic imagination; for every freehand rendition of Iron Man or Batman, he features a new character.
Riney's work has already received local and statewide recognition, including being chosen to represent Horry County last spring at the 2008 National Transportation Week Poster Contest Awards at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Take a glimpse below, and on Flickr where more of Riney's work is featured. And some day, when it reaches the pages of Marvel or DC Comics, we'll remember where it all got its start!
