Maybe the heat index in Cary, N.C. will help keep the Coastal Carolina bats smokin’, as the Chanticleers baseball squad takes on the North Carolina Tar Heels this weekend in a best-of-three showdown to determine who advances to the College World Series.

Temperatures in Cary are expected to top triple digits through the weekend, with a high-noon start on Saturday, 12:30 p.m. first pitch on Sunday, and either a 12:30 or 7 p.m. start on Monday if the series goes to a third game. Chants fans not making the trip north will be able to catch all the action on the ESPN family of networks; ESPNU has the Saturday game, ESPN on Sunday and either ESPN or ESPN2 on Monday.

The Chants pounded out a staggering 47 runs in its three wins last weekend in the Conway Regional – capped by a 13-run second inning in the 24-11 final victory against East Carolina. They’ll have their work cut out for them, though, against a Tar Heels pitching staff that leads the NCAAs in earned run average (2.79), strikeouts (10.2 per game) and hits allowed (7.5 a game).

Go get ‘em, Chants!
