The second annual FAME street festival will be held this Saturday, April 30th on West Broadway Street between 3rd and 6th Avenues North in Myrtle Beach’s historical district, and featuring food, art, music and entertainment.
The festival begins at 10 a.m. with an invocation by City Council member Mike Lowder, followed by a presentation of colors flag ceremony, the singing of the National Anthem by Madelyn Anderson and a few welcoming remarks by Mayor John Rhodes and County Council member Marion Foxwoth. Music begins at 10:15 a.m. with a performance by the Carolina Forest Elementary School steel drum band under the direction of Dr. Tim Peterman. The music stage will be filled with top local and national talent such as Sista Otis, Coman Sproles, Celtic Bluze and others until the festival closes at 10 p.m.
The festival covers three city blocks with the first block covered with original art by local and regional artists, including oils, watercolors, jewelry, glass blowing and metal in motion by Robert Sadlemire. The music stage will be at the intersection of 5th and Broadway. The next block will be the children’s area with face painters, chalk the walk, and entertainment for children. The entertainment stage will be at 4th and Broadway with dancers, magicians, actors and performers from 10 a.m. to sunset. The third block will contain the Southeastern Regional Chili Cookoff, sanctioned by Chili Appreciation International. Chili cooks from Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland will converge on Myrtle Beach including Tom Dozier, the reigning world champion.
The FAME festival is a totally volunteer-operated, not-for-profit, city-supported event with 100 percent of its net revenue returned to the community and its charities. Charities include the Boys and Girls Club, South by Southeast for the repair of music instruments for the needy, the American Culinary Federation for scholarships for high school and college students and other programs within our community.
