Fresh Myrtle Beach Bagel Bites

Fresh Myrtle Beach Bagel Bites

By Becky Billingsley

Diners don't have to go without bagels in the Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand areas, because there are many bagel sources, including one that hand-rolls its product. Here's a rundown on a few spots that make their own bagels versus having them brought in from other sources.

Krave Bagel Bistro, 1434 U.S. 17 S., North Myrtle Beach, (843) 427-7310

Mornings start at 6 a.m. with freshly baked bagels that the staff rolls by hand. Those hand-rolled bagels are "Brooklyn Style" and light in texture and density. Bagel flavors are Plain, Cinnamon Raisin, Blueberry, Honey Whole Wheat, French Toast, Marble Rye, Pumpernickel, Sesame, Poppy, Salt, Onion, Garlic, Eight Grain and Everything. Topping choices include butter, jelly, cream cheese, low fat cream cheese, specialty jam, peanut butter, scallion cream cheese, veggie cream cheese, low fat veggie, strawberry cream cheese, olive pimiento cream cheese, bacon horseradish cream cheese, lox spread and sliced Nova Scotia Salmon with cream cheese.

My most recent bagel was an Eight Grain with bacon horseradish cream cheese, and it made me realize that bagels aren't just for breakfast any more. This savory delight would be welcome on my lunch or dinner plate, and it makes sense that Krave Bagel took first place in entrees at a culinary competition at the recent Italian American Festival in North Myrtle Beach.

Krave also has sandwiches, soups, salads and from-scratch sweets including an uber-luxurious Crumb Cake fantasy, plus catering platters.
