Paul Contento, golf instructor at Litchfield Country Club in Pawleys Island, offers this helpful tip from LCC’s Approach Thoughts newsletter. Thanks, Paul!
Hitting it fat or chili dipping is one of the most discouraging shots in golf. There are three possible causes for hitting behind the ball; placing the ball too far forward in your stance, falling away from the target at impact (poor weight transfer) and hitting from the top or casting the club. You must hit the little ball before the big ball (earth) and this drill is a great visual training aid.

Place a line on the ground and position three balls in a row approximately 1 inch in front of the string. Next hit a few shots and attempt to miss the string by taking a divot after the ball, like in the photos. Give it a try!
