The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship announced last week that LPGA Hall of Fame member Annika Sorenstam will make a special appearance at the World Am on Monday night, August 27th.
Sorenstam will appear at the World Am's 19th Hole, also known as the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, on Monday night to promote her new line of clothing with Cutter & Buck called "Annika." During her visit, Sorenstam will answer questions from World Am golfers, offer an exclusive glimpse at her practice habits, reveal her thought process while putting and discuss her new golf academy and golf course design business.
"I look forward to meeting the World Amateur golfers in Myrtle Beach to show off my latest clothing line by Cutter & Buck," said Sorenstam.
To facilitate Sorenstam's visit, the 19th Hole will be open from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Monday and then resume the traditional 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The most dominant player in women's golf, Annika Sorenstam has rewritten the LPGA and Ladies European Tour record books during her storied career, won countless awards and events and brought unprecedented attention to women's golf. Born in Stockholm, Sweden, on October 9, 1970, Sorenstam burst onto the scene in her rookie year of 1994 with three top ten finishes and the Rookie of the Year award. Since then, Sorenstam has captured 69 LPGA career victories, won 10 Majors, recorded the lowest score at an LPGA tournament (59 in 2001), was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2003 and became the first player in LPGA history to earn more than $20 million. She is an eight-time Rolex Player of the Year award winner, an eight-time Golf Writers Association of America Female Player of the Year and a three-time Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. During her time away from the tour in 2007, Sorenstam opened The Annika Academy at the Ginn Reunion Resort outside of Orlando, Florida, while also launching a course design business with three projects on the drawing board.
"We're thrilled to work with Cutter & Buck to bring one of golf's greatest players to the World Am," said Steve Conwell, vice president of marketing and community relations for Golf & Tennis Pro Shop, Inc., the company that owns PGA TOUR Superstore. "When we first became involved with the World Am a few years ago, we made a promise to make this wonderful event even more exciting for the players. PGA TOUR Superstore has worked hard to leverage our relationships within the golf industry to improve the 19th Hole experience for tournament players by giving them a taste of all the best that the golf industry has to offer. The newest golf products, apparel, technology, and services have become an established part of the 19th Hole. Now, by working with Cutter & Buck to bring Annika to the World Am, we're helping to make this great event even better."
"We're excited to have Annika Sorenstam visit the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship," said Steve Mays, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday tournament director. "The World Am is the most popular amateur golf tournament in the world with 4,000 avid golfers and their guests attending each year. We're happy to partner with Cutter & Buck and the PGA TOUR Superstore to bring the world's most dominant player in women's golf to the Grand Strand and the World Am."
The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship is a 72-hole tournament played on 66 Myrtle Beach area golf courses each August. Participants compete for the right to be crowned "World Amateur Golf Champion" and to win some of the more than $500,000 in prizes given away at the tournament. Players are flighted according to their handicap and at the conclusion of the 72-holes, flight winners advance to the 18-hole world championship playoff at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club. The 24th annual tournament is expected to once again draw 4,000 participants, including players from all 50 states and more than 23 foreign countries.
Each evening after tournament play, the 4,000 golfers bring their guests to enjoy the tournament's hospitality at the "World's Largest 19th Hole" at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Golfers enjoy equipment demos, entertainment, a cocktail buffet, and prize drawings while viewing their daily scores and checking out the latest technological breakthroughs in the golf industry. The 40,000 square-foot PGA TOUR Superstore will feature merchandise from leading golf equipment and apparel manufacturers; as well as game improvement areas, skill contests and games for participants and guests to enjoy.
As of Monday, August 13, entries for the World Am were still being accepted, but only 250 open spots remained. Click here to register.

Still looking for the Annika comeback. I think it’s only a matter of time.
That’s great. Now when’s Natalie Gulbis coming???
Natalie just got knocked out of the Hottest Women in Sports contest on AOL. Maybe she’s got time now to stop by!
