Grammy Winner Steve Tyrell Headlines 2009 Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art

The Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art has announced that Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell will headline the 2009 Festival. In his four decades in the music business, Tyrell has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor and performer, earning two Emmy nominations along the way.

Tyrell's performance takes place on Saturday, September 19, 7 p.m. at the performance tent at Brookgreen Gardens. Tickets for this performance are expected to sell out quickly, and will be available for purchase beginning July 1 - either online or by phone (843-626-8911).

With breakthrough performances in "Father of the Bride" and "Father of the Bride II," Steve Tyrell reinvented and re-popularized classic pop standards for a modern-day audience. With the grit and soul of a lifetime, producing hits for artists from Dionne Warwick to last year's Grammy winner Rod Stewart ("Stardust...Vol. 3"), Tyrell himself has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and gained a passionate worldwide following. His hits "The Way You Look Tonight," "A Kiss to Build a Dream On," and "The Sunny Side of The Street" have launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. Here's a clip from a recent performance on "The Tonight Show":

With sold out shows across America and raves from around the globe from his recent sold-out world tour, Tyrell's following increases daily. He recently made his first appearance with the famed Boston Pops, and at the request of the Sinatra family Steve was the featured performer at the Hollywood Bowl season opening concert at which Frank Sinatra was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. With the encouragement of music legend Quincy Jones and the Sinatra family, plans have since been hatched for an album of Frank's material. This is one of the few times the Sinatra family has reached into the vault of original Sinatra arrangements to share with another artist. With some of the greatest musicians in the world playing some of the greatest songs of all time on this recording, "Songs of Sinatra" will be an album that audiences will want to hear again and again.

Tyrell's studio work has included collaborations with such diverse and legendary artists as Stewart, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Linda Ronstadt, Aaron Neville, LL Cool J, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chris Botti, Dave Koz, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Burt Bacharach, Bette Midler and Stevie Wonder.

As an artist, all five of Tyrell's American Standards albums have achieved top-5 status on Billboard's Jazz charts, and his first album "A New Standard" was among the best-selling jazz albums for more than five years. As a music supervisor and music producer for film and TV, Tyrell has worked with such distinguished directors as Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Nancy Meyers, Betty Thomas and Charles Shyer.
