gsSCENE Celebrates Anniversary Wednesday at The Boathouse

gsSCENE offers constructive social networking, professional development and community engagement to young professionals in and around the Grand Strand. Formed May 2008, gsSCENE has grown to more than 500 members and has hosted events monthly including educational seminars, socials, Shuckin' on the Strand oyster roast and Kickin' it for Charity kickball tournament.

To foster community volunteerism, gsSCENE has hosted a number of community service projects in 2009 and 2008:

• Kickin' it for Charity kickball tournament, May 2, The Ripken Experience, benefiting United Way of Horry County
• Angel Food Ministries, Jan. 24, unloading trucks and boxed food and distributing food
• Holiday Hoopla, Dec. 10, Hard Rock Cafe, donating 65 toys for Toys for Tots
• Beach Sweep, Sept. 20, Myrtle Beach State Park, collecting five trash bags of recyclables, one dumpster of trash and more than 10,000 cigarette butts
• Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach, July 21-23, Widespread Panic's tour at House of Blues, collecting more than 150 canned goods and $300
