How Hot Is It in Myrtle Beach?

You know it's hot when your friends in PHOENIX are teasing you.

After all, they don't get many summertime chances to brag that their normally blast furnace-like heat index is 17 degrees LOWER than yours, like it was today (the 6 p.m. ET readings on The Weather Channel: Phoenix 88, Myrtle Beach 105).

Revel in it while it lasts, desert dwellers. We still have water. You have ... coyotes and cacti (pffffffffffffftt!!)

On the aqua scale, we have options, too. Right outside your resort, you've got pools and splash decks and the Atlantic Ocean. If you want your beach time a little less crowded, take a short drive south to Huntington Beach State Park.

And if you want a bit more water adventure, here's what the Grand Strand water parks are offering before summer's out:

  • Wild Water & Wheels in Surfside Beach has mid-afternoon price breaks and a Friday Night Special (5-8 p.m.) that includes $1 hot dogs, corn dogs, pizza slices and soft drinks.
  • Family Kingdom, Myrtle Beach's only seaside amusement parks, offers several group pricing options and "Hot Deals and Discounts" when you join their mailing list.
  • Myrtle Waves, the state's largest water park, gives you free soft drinks with your paid admission.

Let us know what you're doing to beat the summer heat!
