It’s a Busy Tree-lighting Weekend!

Hundreds turned out Thursday evening for the 2008 Christmas Towne and Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Several more holiday tree lightings abound this weekend. Among those taking place through Monday:
- Friday - Calabash Christmas tree lighting, 6 p.m.; Callahans, Beach Drive and River Road, Calabash, N.C. 910-579-6747.
- Friday - Shallotte Christmas tree lighting, 6 p.m.; Rourk Park, Main Street south of Route 130, Shallotte, N.C.; Santa arrives at 6:30 p.m. 910-754-4032.
- Friday - North Myrtle Beach Christmas tree lighting, 6 p.m.; McLean Park. 281-2662.
- Friday - Loris Christmas parade and tree lighting, 6 p.m., Main Street. 843-756-6030 or www.lorischambersc.com.
- Sunday - Murrells Inlet Christmas parade and tree lighting, 4 p.m. Parade starts at Willcox Avenue and goes down U.S. 17 Business. 357-2007 or www.murrellsinletsc.com.
- Monday - The annual Garden City Beach Community Association's Christmas tree lighting, 6 p.m. There will be special music from the Seaside Elementary School Choir. Hot dogs and drinks will be available, and Santa Claus makes an appearance.
