LGS Alumni Volunteers, community partners pitch in to build fire pit and meeting place for youth center residents
On Oct. 23, Leadership Grand Strand alumni volunteers gathered at the Waccamaw Youth Center in Conway to build a permanent brick fire pit at the heart of a new, landscaped gathering place for the residents. The new hangout was built to serve as a place of enjoyment and respite for the youth at the center.
In addition to the 15 volunteers’ time, the project was made possible with donations from community partners including South Strand Landscaping, 84 Lumber, ProBuild, Waccamaw Brick, Horry County Solid Waste Authority, Chick-fil-A at Seaboard Commons, Costco and Hard Rock Café.
“It was truly inspiring to see the community partners coming together to join LGS with our community service project. I am proud to live and work among such philanthropic organizations and individuals,” LGS community service committee chair Tina Pace said.
Twice a year, the alumni of LGS exemplify their program objectives by selecting, organizing and participating in a community service project as one of their key objectives is to ensure that participants involve themselves in greater roles in our community through volunteerism in service and civic organizations, serving on appointed boards and running for local elected offices.
Through bi-annual community service projects, the LGS alumni continue to develop their community leadership roles and simultaneously provide direct and indirect benefits to many individuals and organizations in need.
