The Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach played host last weekend to the Beach Music Hall of Fame ceremonies, headlined by the induction of Little Anthony & the Imperials in the legendary group's 50th Anniversary year.

The renowned doo-wop/rhythm and blues group was honored along with:

  • Drink Small (Pioneer Award)
  • David Hicks, Keith Houston (Lifetime Achievement Award)
  • Dan E. Lockemy, John McElrath, Charles Pope, Ron Moody & The Centaurs, and Jimmy Ricks & The Ravens (Hall of Fame)

Little Anthony & the Imperials are famous for such hits as "Tears On My Pillow" and "Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko-Bop" beginning in the late 1950s. They have also been nominated as part of the 2009 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Beach music is a distinctive brand of rhythm and blues associated with shag dancing and summers along the Carolina coast.
