Longbeards Bar & Grill Rolls Out the Welcome Mat

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3229/2984888349_01d960ef35.jpgTucked behind the new shopping developments off the north end of Carolina Forest, a new sanctuary has arisen for the outdoorsman in all of us.

From the instant you walk into Longbeards Bar & Grill, you’re greeted and surrounded by an impressive collection of taxidermy. Deer, wild turkeys, ducks and wild boars grace the wood-paneled walls, sharing space with a modern assortment of plasma TVs and a jukebox pumping out dinner music.

The outside deck is the place to take a pint of ale, grab a rocking chair while the sun sets, and watch your friends battle it out in the Cornhole rock pit while the kids feed the fish in the nearby pond.

Longbeards has only been open a few weeks, but is wasting no time in rolling out the welcome mat to the local community. Each of the past two Sundays, overflow crowds have partaken in a complimentary “Pig Pickin’” cookout, and soaked in Longbeards’ laid-back atmosphere.

Our family sampling of the pub fare was a good one. The spinach artichoke dip appetizer vanished quickly thanks to the boys (since when did kids like spinach and artichoke, anyway?). My wife enjoyed the mini burgers, and the turkey croissant left me more than satisfied. The kids’ menu ($4.99) let our tribe sample the chicken fingers and mini burgers, and the plates of these picky eaters were empty when all was said and done.

Longbeards Bar & Grill is located at 5040 Carolina Forest Blvd., behind the new Food Lion shopping center at the intersection of Carolina Forest Blvd. and River Oaks Drive. They’re open 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the bar staying open later. Give them a call at 843-903-2905 for more information.
