Myrtle Beach National: host to the Grand Strand’s most aggressive squirrels
I've been out to the courses at
Myrtle Beach National several times now, and it's incredible how aggressive the squirrels are there. It's entertaining to say the least (unless of course it's your candy you just bought they're snatching). One of the starters warned me about them, saying they'll steal anything in your cart from candy to cell phones, but I've seen enough with my own eyes now to believe it.
It doesn't take much time for the heist to go down. Perhaps you're waiting for the group ahead to walk off the green. Or maybe you're looking for your ball in the pines. That's all the window these pros need.
This week I saw one in particular running around with Zip Lock bag full of chips. He was struggling to get it open, but even as I got close enough for him to run off, no way was he leaving it behind. Or how about another little devil I saw run into a cart and snatch a Snickers while a foursome was on the green.
In any case, if it's visible in your cart and will fit in a squirrels mouth, it's in grave danger. Stuff keys, cell phones and especially snacks in your bag and zip 'em up.

Those Nature granola bars they give out at some of the courses, too. Saw two squirrels fighting over mine like something out of a Tom & Jerry cartoon.
Must have imported those squirrels from New York!
