Myrtle Beach Pic of the Week

Christian, my 10-year-old son, loves baseball. Loves everything about it – playing the game day and night, watching his favorite big-league team and player whenever I stream the games live on the Internet, going to other kids’ games.

He has more baseball equipment than he knows what to do with. Not just your traditional mitt, balls, aluminum bats, cleats and the like, but “toy” baseball products including Wiffle balls and plastic bats.

The equipment overruns our household, and presents a daily tripping hazard for the rest of us. Still, that doesn’t stop Christian from developing other baseball concoctions. Balls made of duct tape, and faux Louisville Sluggers fashioned from rolled-up cardboard come immediately to mind.

Until yesterday, I had no idea his 4-year-old brother, Nicholas, shared the same creativity. Only his fascination is with pirate ships. So what does the youngest do when he can’t find his prized possession, a replica “Pirates of the Caribbean” ship?

He taps into big brother’s obsession and excess, and improvises:

Ahoy, Mateys!
