In the Pawleys Island Hammock Shops is a beautiful historic building that has housed many restaurants through the years, and the latest one called Nosh is exciting.
Nosh is owned by Dr. Thomas Cerasaro and his wife, Keplyn Cerasaro, and they have created a nice-casual ambiance where diners can enjoy a unique menu. Situated under massive live oak trees in the middle of the Hammock Shops, Nosh has linens and crystal inside and a more casual covered outdoor dining area.
The executive chef is Jermaine Taliaferro, who has years of experience working in some of the area's finest restaurant. With him in the kitchen are three sous- and executive chef veterans, providing the Nosh kitchen with expert leadership at all times.
Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on the deck, and lunch appetizers are portioned with sharing in mind. An excellent vegetarian choice is Roasted Hummus Duo where one hummus is traditional chickpeas with roasted garlic and sun-dried tomatoes, while the other is made of white beans, roasted red peppers and basil oil. It comes with fresh warm pita triangles for dipping or spreading.
Those who appreciate smoked salmon will enjoy the Salmon Affumatico appetizer, where a trio is presented: pastrami style, hot and spicy, and Southwestern rub. Other appetizers include Roasted Garlic and Herbed Cheese, Spinach and Crab Dip with three cheeses, Fried Green Tomatoes topped with Andouille sausage, baby shrimp and shrimp bisque sauce, and Cozze Del Giorno, which is mussels in the chef's sauce of the day.
Nosh has lunchtime soups (Tomato Bisque, Black Bean, Italian Egg Drop) and salads (Caesar, Wedge), and a recommended option is to get a sampling of all three soups with your salad.
Lunch entrees include USDA Prime Beef Sliders, Beer Battered Shrimp with marmalade dipping sauce, Roast Beef Sandwich, Fresh Catch over pasta with Champagne cherry tomato basil vinaigrette, Sesame Seared Tuna and outstanding Calamari.
That Calamari is also available at dinner service, when the long pieces are rolled in panko, deep-fried and stacked like Lincoln Logs on a pool of delectable roasted garlic ginger cream. Other dinner appetizers include Fried Lobster Ravioli, Fried Polenta and Traditional Bruschetta.
Dinner entrees are portioned small to keep prices down (no entree on the menu is more than $20) and to encourage the ordering of several dishes for sharing. Choices include Pork Tenderloin in pink peppercorn Bordelaise, Scampi Madagascar finished with Pernod and served over ink pasta, Salmon served over shrimp ravioli in brand saffron cream sauce, Wild Mushroom and Escargot, and Chicken and Lobster in tomato cream sauce with sweet onions and oyster mushrooms.
Desserts are made in-house, and they change. On the day I visited, there was a light and tasty Raspberry Bread Pudding.
Nosh (noshpi.com) is at 10880 Ocean Highway in Pawleys Island, in the Hammock Shops, and the phone number is 843-314-9014. It's open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch on the deck only, and from 5-9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, both inside and outside.
