Numerous Events Mark Myrtle Beach Marathon Weekend

Here's your chance to work off the extra 10,000 calories from your Super Bowl party. The BI-LO Myrtle Beach Marathon is fast approaching, and the best part is that you don't have to run 26.2 miles to participate in the festivities.

Though the Dasani Half Marathon is now closed to registration and the main event field is fast approaching capacity, several opportunities remain to get your keister off the couch next weekend. Related events include:

  • The Ripley's Family Fun Run - Friday, Feb. 16, to benefit Horry County Schools. Guess it's better to run with the fishes than sleep with 'em. (Oh, wait - you can do that here, too. Another time, though).
  • The RBC Centura Bank 5K - Friday, Feb. 16. Because sometimes, less is more.
  • The Michelob Ultra Bicycle Ride - Sunday, Feb. 18, to benefit the Horry County Dept. of Disabilities and Special Needs. Channel your inner Lance Armstrong (63 miles), or keep it simple (10 miles). There's also a 30-mile course if you can't quite make up your mind between the other two.
  • The carbo-loading begins with Friday evening's pre-race pasta party, and the post-race parties following the Saturday events are geared for both adults (at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach) and kids (Ripley's Aquarium).

For the avid runners and serious competitors, the BI-LO Myrtle Beach Marathon has earned high marks for its oceanside course layout, event organization and its fans, and is run by many in an attempt to qualify for the elite Boston Marathon. For everyone, taking part in the weekend is a great way to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of South Carolina and the Horry County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

You can either register or volunteer for the event by clicking here. In the meantime, feel free to share your favorite Myrtle Beach Marathon stories with us!

I hope the local waiters, waitresses & bar tenders aren’t expecting much in tips from this crew.

Kind of a cheap shot, don’t you think, Rony?  Why can’t we just appreciate the fact that this is a really nice event that more & more people like coming to MB for?

Do the kids run inside the Riplesy Aquarium?

If you don’t run, there’s not much more satisfying than watching the back end of the race with a latte on the Starbucks patio at Long Bay Resort.
