Oktoberfest Celebration Set for Oct. 8

Oktoberfest Celebration Set for Oct. 8

Enjoy authentic German food, a bratwurst eating contest and more at downtown Myrtle Beach's Oktoberfest 2011 celebration, set for Saturday, Oct. 8, noon to 11 p.m. at Plyler Park on Ocean Boulevard.

Oh, and did we mention beer and wine?

The celebration includes free live concerts all day by Channelheimer's Oompah Band, Lera Lynn, N'Tranze, Who Shot JR? and Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, and featuring Galactic & G. Love & Special Sauce.

While the spirits will be flowing, families with young children can enjoy an alcohol-free kids' zone with inflatable attractions and street performers. A major fireworks display caps the day's events.

Ocean Boulevard will be closed to motor vehicles from 8th Ave. N. to Mr. Joe White Avenue at Plyler Park. Admission is free, with a portion of proceeds from the Oktoberfest celebration to benefit Horry County Special Olympics.
