Perhaps the biggest, hairiest thing on everybody’s mind this week is taxes. Taxes, taxes, taxes. If you say it three times, it suddenly gets bigger, comes out of the mirror, and attacks your face like the Bloody Mary in the legends of yore. But since it was going to do that anyway, I press on, unafraid.
The Myrtle Beach Tea Party is hosting a Tax Day Rally at Chapin Park from 12-2 p.m. Thursday. The Tea Party is using the meeting as a platform to protest the federal government’s irresponsible spending of tax dollars. Anyone interested should visit MBTeaParty.net to find out more about the group and their efforts. I personally have never been to a protest rally. I may show up with a flaming bra, just for kicks.
Chapin Park will also play host this weekend to Art in the Park, an event held four times yearly since its inception in 1973. Held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, this is a gathering of Southeast artists showcasing and selling everything from glasswork to canvas art. One of a kind finds are, dare I say, common?
Socastee Library is hosting Library Week through Saturday, with entrance in giveaways for anyone checking out three or more books. Keep in mind that it is also Poetry Month until April 30. You can obtain a pocket poem from the library staff, to keep you inspired and give you something to read to your loved one, perhaps even claiming that you wrote it. See hcml.org for hours and information about the library.
Art and Music Under the Oaks is happening on April 17 at Hopsewee Plantation in Georgetown. The event will feature, not surprisingly, art and music. Tickets are $35 and proceeds go to benefit the Cultural Council of Georgetown County. You can call 843-237-3035 to purchase tickets.
The third annual Zombie Walk, a benefit for the Grand Strand Humane Society, has less to do with warm fuzzies than it does with the flesh-crawling fear inspired by cannibalistic nightwalkers. Accordingly, participants who preregister will have access to professional makeup artists who will gladly prepare you to be zombie-riffic for the event, which starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fresh Brewed Coffee House and goes until 2 a.m. Zombies will reconvene later in the evening at Drink and the Basement on Main Street downtown. Adoptable animals will be shaking in their booties, hoping (?) for a loving flesh-eater to take them home.
The Ladies’ Tea at Lee’s Inlet Apothecary and Gifts in Murrells Inlet is another fun way to spend the day. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., participants will be offered samples of fine teas and mini-massages from Grand Strand Health and Wellness. Visit inletrx.com to find out more.
Finally, on Sunday, cap things off at the Spring Salad Sensation at Valor Park in The Market Common. From 12 to 3 p.m., more than 40 chefs will offer their salad creations. The American Culinary Federation hosts the first annual of this event, at a cost of $10 for unlimited salad. Salad days are never a bad thing, and it appears they are finally here again.
Now we know who the senslibe one is here. Great post!
