Officials with Legends in Concert® announced details Friday about the celebrated tribute show's more than $1 million renovation to its new home at Broadway at the Beach. The building, located adjacent to Planet Hollywood, is the first theater to open in the area in several years. Known for its high Las Vegas-style production values, the Legends in Concert show is scheduled to begin performances on March 11.
The theater will have new state-of-the-art features that have never been seen along the Grand Strand. These include a projected stage with seating surrounding on three sides; retractable chandeliers and production lighting; side stage monitors for close-up views from every seat; and programmable colored LED lighting accents in the lobby. Also seen for the first time will be V.I.P. table booths for an even more personalized experience. Nearly 50 of the seats will be for this purpose at every performance.
The Legends in Concert Theater will contain 600 comfortable seats with generous legroom, and its innovative design will create an intimate concert space unique to the Myrtle Beach marketplace, where no seat is more than 50 feet from the stage.
"For 15 years, we've heard guests of Legends in Concert in this market comment about how much they'd like to see the aesthetics of the venue that hosts our performances match the extraordinary level of talent we bring to the stage every night,” said Chris Beattie, regional general manager for Legends in Concert. “We've assembled an experienced team of designers and construction crews who will help us reach and surpass our goal. Due to the design of the new theater, every seat will have a superior view.”
Legends in Concert has awarded the renovation's more than $1 million construction contract to the Conway-based Chancel Builders, Inc., which has constructed many high-profile Myrtle Beach projects, including the nearly 200-foot SkyWheel ferris wheel, residential projects at The Market Common, and the Seasons at Prince Creek.
The interior demolition is complete and constructions crews are now rapidly framing the interior walls and pouring the concrete for the theater's slope seating. Construction is scheduled to conclude in early March.
“We feel quite honored to be chosen to enhance the home of a world-class production like Legends in Concert,” said McKenzie Jordan, president of Chancel Builders, Inc. “Our team is excited to take on such a unique project that is sure to grow in popularity with its new location in the heart of Myrtle Beach.”
The innovative interior of the new Las Vegas-style theater is being designed by noted regional architect Tom Miller of Miller Design Services in Myrtle Beach.
“It's been exciting to work on a design for such an extraordinary venue,” Miller said. “We're looking forward to once again teaming up with the guys at Chancel Builders, Inc. to create a classic, yet comfortable atmosphere that will be one-of-a-kind.”
Legends in Concert has entered a long-term multi-dimensional partnership with Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. of Myrtle Beach, S.C. to become the resident headline entertainment attraction in the building adjacent to Planet Hollywood at Broadway at the Beach.
"We're eagerly anticipating the debut of Legends in Concert at Broadway at the Beach and we're counting down the days until the grand opening," said Patrick Walsh, senior vice president of commercial asset management with Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc., which owns Broadway at the Beach. “The announcement that Legends in Concert is relocating has generated a huge buzz in the community. The restaurateurs, hoteliers and other business owners are excited about the additional traffic that this is going to generate."
Legends in Concert, owned by the Las Vegas-based entertainment production company On Stage Entertainment, first burst onto the Las Vegas stage nearly 30 years ago, and continues to play to full houses nightly in Las Vegas, Branson, Mo., on international cruise ships, and at multiple live venues around the country.
“There's a lot of excitement in our fan base right now,” Beattie said. “We've already had many inquires about our all-access fan club on our Web site, which gives participants a monthly e-newsletter and alerts them about special offers, including pre-sale tickets.”
