http://www.spiritair.com/images/base/content/logos/spirit_logo.gifSpirit Airlines today announced that the ultra low cost carrier will begin seasonal service between Chicago and Myrtle Beach on March 1, 2009. The new service will also offer connections via Myrtle Beach for the Chicago-New York, Chicago-Boston and Chicago-Atlantic City markets.
“We’d like to thank the Myrtle Beach community for their support and look forward to continuing to serve this market with low fares and no hidden fees,” said Spirit’s Chief Marketing Officer Barry Biffle.
“We are thrilled to see Spirit Airlines add daily non-stop service from Chicago O’Hare to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We regularly hear from Chicago-area residents seeking affordable flights to the Myrtle Beach area,” said Brad Dean, president of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “With Spirit’s low-cost fares and the overall affordability of the Myrtle Beach area, this new service is sure to be well received by travelers looking for great bargains in 2009.”
“The Chicago golf market is the third largest golf market in the country, and Myrtle Beach has long been a favorite destination for the area’s golfers,” says Bill Golden, president of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday. “Spirit’s new daily service will provide timely and affordable access to great golf, value and warm weather in the Golf Capital of the World.”
I’ve flown Spirit on a number of occasions between Myrtle Beach and New York City, and find their $9 Fare Club membership to be one of the best deals going. Our family just booked five non-stop, round-trip tickets for the holidays at a staggeringly low $35 apiece. Now, with similar opportunities coming for the Chicago market, I get to pester my many friends in that area to take advantage!
Mid-day departures between markets begin March 1; the schedule can be found here.
