This is an amazing weekend for Myrtle Beach. Legendary pianist Elton John will be making an appearance at the House of Blues on Friday, followed by Diana Ross and whatever she could find of the Supremes at the Palace Theater on Saturday.
Several free tickets are being given away to both events, but you must call Ticketmaster’s automated voice-response system and deliver the secret password when prompted.
Stephen King will be doing a book signing on Sunday at 9 a.m. at Books-A-Million in Coastal Grand Mall. Spelunking lessons begin late Friday evening throughout the city’s extensive sewer system. Will Smith is giving away free donuts at an undisclosed time inside the Donut Man. People are already camping out, as this is the hottest ticket in town.
Since these are clearly nothing more than cruel April Fool’s Day jokes, you can staunch your pain at Park Palooza, happening at Myrtle Beach State Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Scouting activities, like how to read a compass and plant a tree, will be demonstrated.
Education about earth-friendly products helps you appreciate the world around you, glowing in its most golden beauty this time each year. Also Saturday, Breakfast with the Easter Bunny at the South Carolina Children’s Museum promises fun for the kids starting at 9 a.m. A free photo and continental breakfast are included. Call (843) 238-0874 for pricing and reservations.
Of course, a plethora of Easter egg hunts will descend upon the town, making the concept of walking on egg shells all too real. Surfside Beach offers a hunt at the Huckabee Complex beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, and at the same time the Easter Egg Plunge will take place at the Canal Street Recreation Center. The “plunge” is in the pool, for a different take on the traditional. Sign-up is required. Call (843) 918-1465 for more information.
North Myrtle Beach’s McLean Park will also feature a hunt, as will several other parks and area churches.
If direct celebrations of the Lord’s Resurrection aren’t doing it for you, you can always just check out some live music, like Chairmen of the Board at the House of Blues Saturday night.
