The Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art is still a few months away, but you can be an important part of making the festivities possible by taking part in a relaxing, first-class fund-raising event.
The 2007 Pawleys Island Spring Wine Gala, a benefit for the Festival, takes place Saturday, June 2 at 7 p.m. This special event will be held under the moss-draped oaks of the scenic Hammock Shops Courtyard. Visitors can sample wines from more than 60 renowned wineries, as well as a wide variety of tasty hors d'oeuvres catered by a restaurant - Louis's at Pawleys - cited by Esquire as one of America's "Best New Restaurants of 2002".
All wines will be available at a special price for purchase during this evening only. Among the scheduled offerings are the Havens Merlot, La Universal Dido 2004 and the exclusive Lambert Bridge Crane Creek Cuvee.
Well-known jazz musician Jesse Wilson will again be performing. Tickets are $100 per person ($65 deductible) prior to May 10 and $125 after May 10, and are available online or by calling the Festival office at 843-237-4774.
The Spring Wine Gala is a precursor to a fall Festival that will include among its headline performers Grammy Award-winning Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, most recently honored in 2006 for Best Contemporary Jazz Album ("The Hidden Land"). The 2007 Festival also features return performer Jim Witter, who follows up his sold-out "Piano Men" show from 2005 with this year's multimedia tribute to the Beatles: "The Long and Winding Road."
