Weekend Outlook: Man in the Mirror at The Palace

Weekend Outlook: Man in the Mirror at The Palace

By Lauren Poster

This weekend is a quiet one, but consider it the calm before the storm here in Myrtle Beach. With the Coastal Uncorked event winding down (it runs through this Sunday) and the first round of bikers shoving out of town, traffic is relatively low and it’s the perfect time to take advantage of the extra space on the beach. Roll your windows down or open the sunroof. You’ll enjoy the absence of high-octane engines whizzing by at a volume that makes your hairdo fall like an overmixed pineapple cake.

Besides, knowing that Buzz Aldrin will be hitting Myrtle next week for a Memorial Day Parade is enough excitement. Before blasting off, it’s important to recharge your batteries. Head to the beach and try a parasailing adventure, or just bake and frolic (using plenty of sunscreen, of course).

One highlight this weekend is the arrival of the Palace’s short-running Man in the Mirror show, a tribute to the career of Michael Jackson. The show will include all of Michael Jackson’s number one hits, and features multimedia entertainment with video, dancing, live performers and more. The first show is Saturday at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $19.99 to $39.99. Visit www.palacetheatremyrtlebeach.com to find out more. The show is only running for four performances, through May 24th, so buy tickets now!

Today, Broadway Street, a historic and recently renovated area of old Myrtle Beach, will be hosting the Downtown Broadway Street Stroll, showcasing vendors and restaurants. The trees will be lit and many of the businesses will be offering freebies, which is good news considering this area is legendary for its spas. Visit Broadway Street (which runs parallel to Business 17) between 4th and 6th Avenues North from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. You’ll learn all about this nostalgic corner tucked away in the heart of town.
