Head out to Market Common this weekend for one of four yearly Beer Fests, presented by Festival Promotions and Piggly Wiggly. This event will feature over 115 beers from around the world, including a special Lent-themed beer from California-based Bruery (Saison de Lente). This is the second annual series of Beer Fests, and times have been expanded to include not only Saturday (12-7 p.m.) but also Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is free and samples of the beer will be given in exchange for a varying number of tickets, which can be purchased for $1 apiece. Gordon Biersch will also be offering Bavarian Beer Breakfasts from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for $12.95, with a limited menu of German-style beers and brats – because there’s nothing like day-drinking to make you feel like part of the gang and initiate yourself into a different culture.
Also this weekend are the Plantation Tours of Prince George Winyah Parish, based in Georgetown just about an hour outside of Myrtle Beach. If you’re willing to travel the short distance, the payoff is just grand. This tour will feature historic homes and plantations in Georgetown and surrounding areas, rich with the allure of low-hanging Spanish moss and azaleas ready to pop into bloom. In its 63rd year of pleasing locals and visitors alike, the tour is a favorite for history buffs. Last-minute tickets can be purchased at the Prince George Episcopal Church for $35 on the day of the tours, which run Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors must supply their own transportation, but maps will be provided with tickets to the 20 locations open for viewing. Jam rock darlings Widespread Panic are playing the House of Blues tonight, Thursday, March 25th. Be prepared to have dreadlocks flung in your face with abandon, and for the scent of patchouli to commingle with the wild stompings of possibly bare feet. Widespread Panic has been touring since their inception in 1986, drawing comparison to bands like the Allman Brothers, Phish and the Grateful Dead. With innumerable sold-out live shows under their belts, these guys know how to entertain.
So whether it’s booze, schmooze or blues you want, this is the weekend to grab it!
ThatÂ’s rlelay shrewd! Good to see the logic set out so well.
