World Market: Where Basket Weaving Meets “Burning Witches”

Billed as a "one-stop shopping mecca," national concept chain World Market opened its doors this week to its new Myrtle Beach market.

World Market's grand opening festivities run through the weekend; its "adventurous approach to home décor" is detailed in the company's Business Wire release. As the release caters to showcasing the features that residents will find of interest, allow me to highlight a few items that will appeal to visitors and locals alike:

  • This is a wine lover's paradise. More than 500 wine selections include a huge California collection and imported choices from France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Australia, Chile, Germany, South Africa and New Zealand.
  • Lots of exotic beers, too. If you're looking for a sale on Budweiser or Miller Lite, look elsewhere; come here if you're feeling adventurous. World Market's vast collection has plenty of imports and a unique array of domestic microbrews, including regional favorites from Charleston, Greenville and Asheville. San Francisco weighs in with "He'Brew: The Chosen Beer," and then there's Monty Python's "Holy Grail Ale" - proudly claiming its product is "tempered over burning witches." Too many choices? World Market makes it easier by letting you "Create Your Own 6-Pack."
  • The Marketplace section boasts an impressive array of gourmet foods. If you're visiting for only a few days and don't want to overdo it on grocery items for your condo rental, there's even a selection of miniaturized condiments and sauces.

World Market is located at 1144 Seaboard Street, at the Seaboard Commons Shopping Center next to Target.

I was in there earlier today.  Lots of chairs.

Monty Python beer?  OK, you convinced me.

Their wine collection is enormous.  If you can’t find a bottle you like there, you’re not trying.

If you’ve never been to one of these stores, it really is a different kind of concept.  Think Pier 1 meets Bed BAth & Beyond meets Whole Foods.

The gourmet section alone is at least worth the trip.  Alot more there than you’d possibly expect in a home furnishings place.
