Georgetown Lunch Rotary Hosts 3rd Annual Shag Festival

The Georgetown Lunch Rotary this week announced plans for the 3rd Annual Shag Festival, to be held on Saturday, April 12, 7-11 p.m. on King Street in Downtown Georgetown. The event has quickly become a favorite for many locals who enjoy an evening with the South Carolina state dance.

"New this year, the shag festival becomes a street dance on King Street in Downtown Georgetown!" says festival chair Jenna Jordan. "We expect to double our crowd and are thrilled to announce that we will be dancing to the popular sound of The Band of Oz. Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for a wonderful evening that results in a significant contribution to Alzheimer's Research and other community projects."

Food and beverage will be available throughout the evening. Those needing a shag refresher course are invited to arrive at 6 p.m. for a lesson before the band begins an hour later.

Tickets will go on sale this Saturday, March 1, and may be purchased at the Georgetown and Pawleys Island Chamber offices, the UPS Store on Highmarket in Georgetown and the Cultural Council office in Litchfield. They are $20 in advance and $25 when purchased at the event. Tickets may also be purchased from any member of the Georgetown Lunch Rotary club, and many sponsorship opportunities are still available.
