Golf Question of the Week: Fantasy Golf – Trendy Pastime, or the Abyss of Geekdom?

In the interest of full disclosure, I’m a longtime fantasy football junkie. Already starting to think about my league’s draft at the end of August, in fact.

But joining fantasy leagues in other sports? Sorry – can’t be bothered. Some of the other guys in my football league are perpetually pestering me to join their fantasy basketball, baseball and hockey leagues. Hockey, for crying out loud. Even a guy like yours truly, who’s taken more than his share of grief for knowing entirely too much inane sports trivia, has his limits.

So when someone actually asks you about joining a fantasy golf league, you might need to ask a few questions (starting with “Huh????” and “What the ____?”).

You might also ask why the Wall Street Journal is devoting time to providing “in-depth analysis” on the subject:

The pearl of wisdom offered by the Journal’s “fantasy sports expert,” to the poor schleps stuck with an injured Tiger Woods on their team?

”They’re screwed.”

Priceless.

Lay it on me, Beach Bloggers. What am I missing here?
