A Myrtle Beach July 4th Observance that Celebrates the Present, Honors the Past

The three-day holiday weekend is almost upon us, and the Grand Strand has lots of celebrations on tap for your enjoyment.

But between barbecuing, fireworks, ballgames and the like, one stop I’d highly recommend you make is over at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force base. First, you can get a slice of something new by taking in the hometown village atmosphere of The Market Common. And after a day or evening of shopping, catching dinner and a movie or just hanging out, don’t leave without taking one of the 3,000 American flags that have already begun to adorn the landscape for this weekend – placed in honor of those who have served in the United States Air Force.

And as you leave, make sure you have that flag with you when you stop over at Warbird Park, located near the east entrance just off Kings Highway. There, you can see some Air Force jets up close, read up on some local military history, and – most important – get a better sense of the role our brave men and women in the armed forces have played in maintaining our freedom.
